Parent Governor Election Autumn 2022

Dear parents / carers

The Governing Body currently has one vacancy for a parent governor.

Parents have an important role to play in the education of children and being a parent governor can give you an opportunity to contribute to the education of all children at our school.  Training and support for parent governors is provided by both the school and the Local Authority.

We are advertising this vacancy at the start of the term to give our new Nursery and Reception parents the opportunity to apply.  Whilst open to any parent, the post may be of particular interest to parents of our younger children, as the term of office is four years.

All parents (including carers) of registered pupils at the school are eligible to stand for election.  Should there be more nominations than vacancies to fill, a ballot will take place in which parents will be invited to vote for their preferred candidate.

If you are thinking of applying to become a parent governor, PLEASE READ THIS GUIDANCE detailing the election process, role and expectations of parent governors.  Parents should also read the Governor Code of Conduct.

Parents who are interested in the role will be contacted by either the Headteacher or an existing governor prior to completing an application.  If you are interested in the role of parent governor, please complete this expression of interest form by Friday 14th October 2022.

After discussion about the role with the Headteacher or a governor, you will then be asked to complete a parent governor application form.  This will be shared with you by email.  The deadline for applications will be 12.00pm on Friday 4th November.  Please email completed applications to sarah.hunter@kingedward.org or hand in to the school office.

You should be aware that confirmation of appointment as a governor will be subject to satisfactory pre appointment checks.  If you require further information regarding this please contact the school office.

Thank you

Mrs Hunter

Business Manager

Clerk to the Governing Body
