Key worker childcare update

Dear parents/carers,

I am writing to update you about a decision which has been made, in our Governing Body Committee meeting on Friday.  As you will know, we have been providing key worker childcare since Monday 23rd March.  At the same time, our staff have been providing remote learning and now, in addition, around 100 children have returned to site.

As you already know, our key worker provision will close on Friday 17th July.  I had very much hoped to then open OOSC for key worker children.  However, in a Health and Safety Committee meeting on Friday, we made the decision not to open OOSC this summer.  There are a wide range of reasons why we have made this decision.  But the difficulties and challenges in opening and running OOSC for the summer holiday are significant.

I appreciate that this may not be the decision some of you were hoping for.  I know the LA is currently looking at organising childcare and summer provision for children across North Tyneside.  I will of course update you on any plans they make.  But I felt you needed as much notice as possible that we would definitely not be opening OOSC.

The LA has a website which may be of some use to some of you.

I am extremely proud of our staff team.  They have supported you as families throughout the most challenging of times that any of us have experienced as parents.  I very much hope that we can have as normal a start to the new school term as possible, when it arrives in September.

Best wishes,

Kate Byrne
