Welcome to Nursery and The KEEP

Nursery provision

Our Nursery is based in North Shields and is part of King Edward Primary School.  We have a highly skilled and experienced Early Years staff team and our Nursery is Teacher led.

All three and four year olds are eligible for 15 hours per week free early education at Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).  This is an entitlement for all children and we provide this through our Nursery.  We offer free sessions Monday to Friday (three hours per session) as either a morning or afternoon session.

King Edward Extended Provision (KEEP)

We offer an additional 15 hours per week (30 hours in total) for families who are eligible.  This entitlement is an extension of the Nursery provision and is accessed through our King Edward Extended Provision (KEEP).  The KEEP is also Teacher-led and provides a home-from-home environment to reinforce experiences children have at home with their friends and family.

To be eligible for the KEEP:

Eligibility criteria to access 30 hours provision for free are set nationally and are out of our control:

  • BOTH parents must be working (or the sole parent is working in a lone parent family);
  • EACH parent works at least 16 hours a week and neither parent has an income of more than £100,000 per year

In the following circumstances, parents who are temporarily away from the workplace will be eligible:

  • Both parents are employed but one or both parents is temporarily away from the workplace on parental, maternity or paternity leave or away from the work place on adoption leave
  • Both parents are employed but one or both parents is temporarily away from the work place on statutory sick pay
  • Parents with a caring responsibility or disability may also be eligible

To check if you are eligible and apply obtain your eligibility code, visit the Childcare Choices government website (www.childcarechoices.gov.uk). You will be able to apply for a code up to three months before your child turns three. You must provide a valid eligibility code to school to access a funded place.  This code needs to be reapplied for every three months or your child will lose their place in the KEEP, even once they have started.

Funded places may be offered to children eligible for Early years Pupil Premium subject to availability.

Parents / carers may request to pay for a place in the KEEP subject to availability.

If we are oversubscribed for KEEP places, we will apply the oversubscription criteria as described in our Nursery Admissions Policy. You can find further information in the 'How to Apply' section of our school website along with a copy of our Nursery Admissions Policy.
