Stonewall School Champion

Dear parent / carer

In April 2019, the government announced new regulations for teaching Relationships and Sex Education in England that will become statutory in September 2020.  As you know we have changed our curriculum and policy already as we are a DfE nationally designated pilot school. These new regulations are a great step forward in the fight for equality, marking a significant change in the way children and young people are taught about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) relationships and identities.

In light of these changes, we applied for government funded training from Stonewall and we were successful in that bid.  The Stonewall organisation provides support for LGBT people. We have been lucky enough to have an Education Officer from Stonewall in school to work with our staff.

In recognition of all of our hard work we have been awarded the Stonewall School Champions Bronze Award by the Stonewall organisation.  We are very proud of achieving this award and wanted to share this lovely news with you.

The bronze award is given to schools where gender equality and diversity are celebrated and shows that these values are embedded across our curriculum.

If you would like to contact Stonewall about any issue affecting LGBT people, you can contact their information service at https://www.stonewall.org.uk/

Yours sincerely

Miss Byrne, Headteacher         Mrs Miller, Care, Guidance and Support Leader        Mrs Reynolds, RSHE Leader
