Staffing & Finance Governor Overview – April 2025

Dear parent / carer

The Staffing and Finance governor committee met before the Easter holidays.

Governors fulfilled statutory duties including:

  • Reviewing the Staff Code of Conduct Policy
  • Reviewing Service Level Agreements

Governors considered financial benchmarking data comparing our school spend to other schools.  Governors noted the savings school is able to make by being ‘paperless’ and having electronic communication with parents / carers.  Even further savings could be made if all parents / carers sign up to the School Gateway app to receive text messages for free.  If you haven’t signed up yet, please CLICK HERE to find out how, or call the office where a member of staff will be happy to help.

Governors heard that a number of schools in the Local Authority are predicting a deficit budget this year.  Falling birth rates across the Authority and rising staff and resource costs represent a challenge for all schools.  At King Edward Primary, we continue to work hard to set a balanced budget to allocate staffing and resources with care to meet the needs of our children.

A slight amendment was made to the school uniform policy regarding shoes.  Where the policy previously stated ‘sensible black shoes’, it will now specify that shoes must not have an open toe for safety reasons.  All black trainers are also permitted.  Can we also remind parents/carers that hair should be a natural colour, not dyed.  Our full uniform policy is available on our website.

Mrs Hunter (on behalf of the meeting Chair)
