Full Governing Body Overview – October 2026
Dear parent / carer
The Full Governing Body met for the first time this academic year in October.
The Chair thanked Stephanie Collins, parent governor, for her commitment and contributions throughout her term of office which comes to an end in November. An election will be held to select a new parent governor in the new year. The governing body also said goodbye to Jonathan Heath, who has been Chair of the Governing Body for seven years and now moves on to pastures new. His contributions to and support of the school over this significant tenure have been very much appreciated.
The governing body was pleased to appoint a new Chair, Mhairi McGowan, and Vice Chair, Hannah Gilroy. The school and governing body look forward to working with them both in their new roles in the coming months.
Pupil outcomes for the previous academic year were discussed by the recently renamed Curriculum and Well-being committee. Governors were pleased to hear that the Reading, Writing and Maths combined score for KS2 outcomes had improved on the previous year. Phonics scores and EYFS outcomes were broadly in line with the National average. Attendance continues to be a particular strength of the school and we hope this is testament to our values of ‘happy, caring, achieving’.
The Curriculum and Wellbeing Committee also approved an updated Allergy Policy, reflecting the latest national guidance and recommendations for allergy management in schools. All school staff have also received updated Allergy Awareness training. We remain committed to ensuring that pupils with allergies can participate safely and fully in all aspects of school life.
Governors continued in their strategic oversight of the school by:
- Reviewing statutory policies including Data Protection and Managing Medication
- Planning future governor visits to school
- Reviewing the annual safeguarding report to governors
The governing body looks forward to another successful year, working alongside school leaders to ensure the very best for all our pupils.
Mrs Hunter
Clerk to the Governors
On behalf of the meeting Chair
