C&O meeting overview Autumn 21

Dear parent / carer

Our Curriculum and Pupil Outcomes (C&O) committee met for the first time this term and we were pleased to welcome our newest governor, Mhairi McCowan to this group.

It was exciting to hear from Miss Byrne about this year’s planned training for staff including a range of national and accredited courses on subjects covering meta cognition, maths mastery, and a new phonics approach throughout school.

Mr Denton attended for part of the meeting and gave a comprehensive explanation of the new phonics approach.  His presentation set out the reasoning behind the changes and how this will be rolled out across the school.

Miss Forbes also joined us to talk to us about careers education throughout school and how existing work will be strengthened through in-school events and visitors, external visits and the use of enterprise sessions to help pupils develop their entrepreneurial skills.

Finally, we heard about the fantastic work that has been going on to improve the music curriculum and wider opportunities led by Mrs Brown.  Covid restrictions had put a halt to a number of music activities, such as public singing and 1:1 music lessons but these are now being reintroduced.  The newly formed choir performed as a flash mob at school drop off just before half term to rave reviews.  A huge congratulations to all those who were involved, we look forward to more surprise performances soon.

Claire Graham

Chair of C&O committee
