Christmas 2020 and the end of term!

Dear parent / carer

With Christmas just around the corner, we wanted to let you know what we have in store to celebrate Christmas at King Edward.  As you will no doubt have guessed, we will need to do some things differently due to COVID.  But we are confident that even observing the restrictions, we have plenty to get our children in the holiday spirit!

Christmas Dinner

We are very pleased to be able to offer all children a Christmas Dinner!  Children in Nursery to Year 1 will have their Christmas Dinner on Wednesday 9th December (Year 2 to 6 will only have the option of a grab bag on this day).  Year 2 to 6 will have their Christmas Dinner on Thursday 10th December (Nursery to Year 1 will only have the option of a grab bag on this day).  All children will have their Christmas Dinner in the school hall in their own bubbles (except the KEEP) with the area being cleaned down between each year group.  On your child’s Christmas Dinner day, they will have the option of Christmas Dinner only.  If they would not like Christmas Dinner, please send them into school with a packed lunch.

Christmas Cards

We ask that children do not bring in Christmas cards for other children this year.  This is so cards are not moving between numerous households.  Instead, children will have the opportunity to make a Christmas card in class to exchange with another child in their own bubble.

Christmas Jumper Day

Children are invited to come into school on Friday 11th December in their Christmas jumper and non-uniform.  This will be in support of the charity, Save the Children, so we are asking for a £1 donation from families.  If you have a pre-loved Christmas jumper that you would like to go to a new home, please bring this into school on Thursday 3rd December.  There will be a table in each yard where you can leave your jumper donation.  We will then keep these in school for a period of ‘isolation’ before redistributing.  If any families are struggling to get a Christmas jumper this year, please contact school and we will seek to arrange one for your child.  Alternatively, your child can come to school in non-uniform.

Christmas Performances

Our usual Christmas performances will not be able to go ahead this year.  Instead, children in Year 1 to Year 6 will wrap up warm to sing some carols out in the yard.  Early Years are planning a Nativity with their children which will be shared on Tapestry.  Although we are unable to invite parents to attend these events, we are sure the children will enjoy the experience and taking part!

Christmas Parties

Christmas parties will go ahead at the end of term.  Children can come to school in non-uniform on the day of their party; though we ask that they are dressed suitably for the cold December weather.  Your child will not need to bring in any food as some small refreshments will be provided for them (dietary requirements will be catered for).  Party dates are as follows:

Thursday 10th December – Year 4

Monday 14th December – Year 3

Tuesday 15th December – Year 2 and Nursery (am and pm)

Wednesday 16th December – Year 5 and Reception

Thursday 17th December – Year 6 and Year 1

Year 4

Mrs Farrell is sadly leaving us at the end of this term, having worked here for more than ten years.  She is taking up a new role from January onwards in a nearby Middle school.  We will miss Mrs Farrell, but I’m sure you will join us in wishing her well.  Miss Osueke will take Y4F from January onwards.

End of term

Our children’s last day at school will be Friday 18th December, returning on Monday 4th January.  On behalf of everyone at King Edward Primary, I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  I hope you are all able to celebrate and stay safe this Christmas.

This has been an exceptionally challenging term for all of us, at the end of an unprecedented year.  But I am proud to say that we have worked incredibly hard as a staff team to do the absolute best we can, in such challenging circumstances.  Who would have thought at the start of 2020 what this year would bring for us all.  Your children have coped incredibly well and I am very proud of them.  Thank you so much for all of your support, it is much appreciated.

I hope that every one of us has a restful and relaxing Christmas with much happiness.

Thank you

Kate Byrne
