Cedarwood Trust – Nourish Store, North Shields – Donation Request
Cedarwood, a charity located in the heart of the Meadow Well in North Shields are very proud of their Nourish Store. They are not a food bank; they are a community scheme which costs £1 to join and £4 for your chosen basket of shopping which includes fresh fruit, salad and vegetables. They are open to anybody, no matter your circumstances, income or where you live.
However, they have a mission to help ease poverty in the local area is becoming increasingly difficult as they rely heavily on donations from the public. We know we are all struggling, we are all living day to day through a cost-of-living crisis impacting on everyday life and asking parents for donations is not to be done lightly. Many parents, grandparents, carers, teachers, support staff, kitchen staff etc. may be suffering behind closed doors and may well welcome more information about the service they offer in the Nourish Store. They are looking for donations of tins or packets of food to help stock their Nourish Store. The items do not have to be bought specifically for this initiative, it may be an opportunity to have a look through the cupboards at home and dig out foods which have been there a while which aren’t being used.
They have run out of so many basic food items such as tinned vegetables, jams, soup, rice, biscuits, cereals, toiletries. Tin On A Wall North Tyneside CIC is thir main source of donations, in April 2022 they donated 1,234kg however April 2023 they were only able to donate 764.20kg due to falling volunteer numbers and increased pressure on households unable to donate due to rising living costs. The number of shoppers in the Nourish Store is up 42% on last year with an average of 10 people joining a week hence why I’m reaching out to you today.
If you able to donate any tins, packets of food, cereals, toiletries etc, we are having a collection point in school in the two play sheds in the KS1 and KS2 yards, please bring along your items on Thursday 13th July 2023 in the morning (items will be collected by the Nourish store the same day).
