FAQs for September 2026
Dear parents / carers
All your questions for September answered! Please read the below information carefully as there may be different arrangements for your child as they move to the next year group.
Q: When do children return to school in September?
A: School resumes on Wednesday 2nd September 2026 for all children. School will be closed on Tuesday 1st September for teacher training (INSET). OOSC will be open on this day and booking is now open on the Gateway app.
Q: Are the current roofing works due to be finished by September?
A: Yes! All roofing works are on track to conclude during the summer holidays. Reception and Year 1 will return to their usual classrooms from the first day back. Year 1 will be in the EY building, not the main building that they visited on transition morning. Year 5 will continue to have pick up and drop off via the door in the KS1 yard. All entrances can be found on the site map.
Q: What time does the school day start?
A: Reception to Year 5 have a flexible start to the school day of 8.50-9.00am. Year 6 have a fixed start time of 8.50am. Punctuality is important for the best start to the day and we expect all children to attend school on time.
Q: What time does the school day end?
A: Reception to Year 2 finish at 3.15pm. Year 3 to Year 6 finish at 3.20pm.
Q: Should I accompany my child onto the yards at pick up and drop off?
A: Parents / carers of children in Nursery to Year 4 should accompany their child. We encourage Year 5 and Year 6 children to come on site themselves to support them becoming more independent and high school ready.
Q: What is the school uniform?
A: Our full uniform policy is available on our website. Can we remind parents / carers that leggings are not allowed for school uniform or PE kit. Children should attend school on PE days in their PE kit.
Q: How do I buy new items of badged school uniform?
A: Uniform sales are from the office every Monday during term time from 3.30pm to 5.00pm. We are unable to sell uniform at any other time. However, you may send your order into school with cash and uniform will be sent home with your child. All prices are on our website.
Q: Can my child wear jewellery in school?
A: Jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets and rings should not be worn. Activity trackers with an internet connection are not allowed. One small pair of stud earrings may be worn. If you choose to get your child’s ears pierced during the summer, they must be able to remove earrings themselves for PE lessons from September. Staff will not assist in the removal of earrings. A plaster cannot be worn over earrings during PE for H&S reasons.
Q: Can my child bring a mobile phone to school?
A: Parents / carers of children in Year 4 to Year 6 sometimes choose to send their child to school with a mobile phone. These are handed to staff at the start of the day and returned to children at the end of the day. School accepts no liability for lost or damaged devices.
Q: What is the cost of school meals?
A: The cost of meals will be £2.75 per day from September 2026. Prices are reviewed annually.
Q: What do I do if my child needs to be absent from school?
A: If your child is unwell and cannot attend school, you must call and notify the school office by 9.00am. If you require an absence for any other reason, you should complete the absence request form available on our website. We are unable to authorise any family holidays and you may be fined if you choose to take your child out of school for this reason. Attendance matters: you should ensure your child attends school every day they are able.
Q: Who do I contact if I have any questions or queries?
A: You should direct all correspondence to the school office in the first instance. You can contact us by phone (0191 8141455) or email (info@kingedward.org) and we will direct you to the most appropriate member of staff who will respond to you in a reasonable timeframe. Please do not email staff directly.
Q: What are the school values?
We are a ‘Happy, Caring, Achieving’ school and we apply this to our whole community of children, governors, parents / carers and staff. We encourage all adults in our community to be role models for our children, showing respect and kindness to others.
