School lunches for the next week and a half

Dear parents/carers,

Unfortunately, I have been informed over the weekend that a member of the school catering staff has testing positive for Covid 19.  The member of staff has not been in school since Tuesday and they did not leave the school kitchen on Monday and Tuesday.  Therefore there is no risk to your child.  The member of staff has some mild symptoms but is otherwise well.

However, it does mean that the school kitchen has been closed with immediate effect.  This is because the rest of the catering staff now need to isolate as a precaution.

The school kitchen will reopen on Wednesday 14th October.

School meals provision while the school kitchen is closed?

While our school kitchen is closed, packed lunches will be made off site and delivered to school every day.  Therefore if you wish your child to have a packed lunch each day as their school meal, while the kitchen is closed, they will be able to have one.  If however you wish to send your child in with a packed lunch during this time, then feel free to do so.

Hot food trial

Unfortunately, this means that our hot food trial is going to be slightly delayed.  It will now start for Reception and Year 1 from straight after half term.  This is because the school meals team are not going to be in school to make the necessary preparations with us, like ordering the different ingredients and making the necessary plans.  We have no control over the school kitchen as they are LA staff.  Therefore this is out of our control and is simply an unavoidable consequence of this situation.

We always knew there were going to be challenge after challenge in school with Covid 19.  So thank you for your support and understanding as we manage this latest one.

Best wishes,

Kate Byrne
