Notification of INSET Days

Dear parent /carer

I would like to give you notice of two INSET days this term.  School will be closed to all children and parents for staff training on the following dates:

  • Friday 6th November
  • Monday 9th November

We have chosen a Friday as one of the INSET days as the majority of children are already off site for part of the day; we hoped this would cause the least inconvenience for families.

I appreciate that we have already scheduled one INSET day this term and would usually seek to spread the dates over the whole school year.  However, it is vital that a sufficient number of staff are trained in paediatric first aid and that training is kept up to date.  With the emerging evidence of a second wave of Covid 19, there is the possibility of such practical training services becoming unavailable.  Therefore we are unable to delay this training until next term, as the certification our staff hold is due to expire in the coming months.  This has been decided with the support of governors.

We usually use INSET days to complete this training every three years.  We cannot train staff in small groups on different days, as put simply, we need the whole staff team available each day in school, to be able to manage to remain open during Covid 19.  The whole organisation of bubbles throughout school, along with the ongoing threat of staff isolation or absence due to Covid 19, means that we cannot function as a school if staff were offsite in groups for this training which is due to expire.

To support families with childcare, we are able to open our OOSC for both INSET days from 7.30am-5.30pm.  This will be run in the same way as the holiday club during October half term with the same full day rate of £27.50.  Click here for more information.

I apologise for any inconvenience to families but hope you can understand our specific reason to allocate these training days this way.

Yours sincerely

Kate Byrne
