Jubilee Bank Holiday

Dear parents / carers

 

As you may already know, the nation has an extra bank holiday this year to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

 

As the date falls in a school holiday, schools have been instructed to allocate an additional day of closure in lieu of the bank holiday.  We will therefore be closed to children and parents on Monday 16th May 2022.  

 

We appreciate that this may have childcare implications for some families and so OOSC Holiday Club will be open on Monday 16th May 2022.  Booking for this date is now open in the Gateway app.  

 

Schools have not had a great deal of flexibility in the decision to close for an additional because:

• The bank holiday is a contractual benefit that school staff are entitled to
• Schools were advised not to allocate the additional date until after the Queen had officially been on the throne for 70 years (which was in February)
• The extra national bank holiday is in June, which falls late in the school year
• It is half term in North Tyneside when it actually falls so logistically we have to make the bank holiday happen on another day
• The statutory instrument that allows us to reduce our taught days from 190 to 189 expires on the 31 st August 2022 so nothing can be carried into the new academic year

 

We look forward to celebrating the momentous occasion of the Jubilee in school.  We have lots planned including a whole school art project that we will share with you on Facebook – watch this space!  We will also have a day of celebration in school on Friday 27th May and we will share more details with you all nearer the time.
