Concerns about Coronaviras

As yet we are still unaware of any confirmed cases of Coronavirus linked to King Edward Primary School staff or students. Just to remind you, if your child develops a new and persistent cough or a fever (above 37.8 degrees) then they should self-isolate for 7 days. Currently the guidance does not extend to self-isolation of families where one member has a cough or fever. Government guidelines on self-isolation are available below:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-people-with-confirmed-or-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

If you find yourself in the position of needing to self-isolate your child please follow these steps:

  1. Contact the school office rather than use the student absence line.
  2. Ask to speak to Kate Byrne or Berni Miller . If they are unavailable, then they will either return your call as soon as possible or another member of the Leadership Team will contact you.

You will be given advice on how your child can access work during their self-isolation. We are currently working on providing access to appropriate work.

We are operating as normal in school and will continue to follow the guidance from Public Health. We are reviewing whether to cancel any school events or local trips in the short term, but we will obviously consider the risks of any activity on a case by case basis and take advice where appropriate.

We are sharing a range of videos and demonstrating practical ways in which germs can spread.

For example we will be practically demonstrating this with all children within the next 24 hours.  Please see this link  (https://youtu.be/djxmuDz8c3s)

This is to ensure our children are informed about the importance of washing their hands, but not causing them any panic.

All soap dispensers have been checked and are fully stocked.  This will continue to be the case.  Children will also be given regular, observed opportunities to wash their hands daily.

As an additional precaution we have also cancelled whole school assemblies so that there are no gatherings of our whole school community.

Please continue to encourage your child to wash their hands for the recommended 20 seconds before school, during the school day and when they get home.
