Year 6 – Monkseaton Coastal School
Dear Year 6 Parents/Carers,
This half term you need to make an important decision about the school you would like your child to move to when they leave us at the end of Year 6. It is not our place to advise, suggest or comment, as the right fit of High School for one child can be very different for another. You may have already made the decision about where you would like to apply, or you may be thinking about visiting the High School nearby for their open day / evenings. We just wanted to make you aware of a new and alternative option that you may or may not have previously considered. We are making you aware of it simply as it is a new option which you may not know about.
Monkseaton Middle School has now been renamed as Monkseaton Coastal School. Previously a Middle School, it has extended its capacity to now enable students to stay there until the end of Year 11. Monkseaton Coastal School is a much smaller setting than the other options for Year 7. As such, it may be worth considering finding out more if your child is anxious, has SEND or can be easily overwhelmed. The move to High School can be daunting for many children, but the size and scale of the setting itself can make it even harder for some.
