Full Governing Body overview January 2026
Dear parent / carer
The Full Governing Body met in January for the first meeting of 2026. Our newly elected parent governor, Ruth Boston, was welcomed to the FGB and governors would like to thank all parents / carers who participated in the parent ballot.
Governors received a detailed report from the Headteacher covering all key aspects of school including quality of education, leadership and management, personal development and behaviour and attitudes. It was particularly noted that:
- Oracy has been increased and integrated across the curriculum for all year groups
- Outstanding results have been achieved with use of one key member of staff to deliver the Dyslexia programme across school
- Adaptations to the Year 1 curriculum including ‘draw for writing’ and ‘curious quests’ have been embraced by children and staff
- School’s focus on ‘secondary ready’ instead of ‘SATs ready’ mean children are able to thrive in high school when they leave Y6
The Smartphone Free Childhood Movement was discussed in detail. This is a UK-based grassroots movement that advocates delaying children’s access to smartphones, promoting device-free childhood until age 14. The potential harm that can and often does arise from unrestricted access to content is central to the debate. Governors discussed the importance of education for parents on smartphone and device access and the potential role school can play in this. A governor task force has been created to further consider this issue.
Governors fulfilled statutory duties including:
- Completion of the annual governor skills audit
- Review of termly accident reports
- Review of the annual SEND repot
- Review of statutory policies including SEND and Managing Medication in School
- Approval of terms dates for 2026-27
