What we do

Our school is proud to support a range of charities and causes.  Supporting charities raises awareness of key issues and teaches our children about the importance of generosity.  We feel this reflects our school values of ‘happy, caring achieving’.  

The charities we support may vary from year to year, so please check out the news section to see the latest events in school.  We help charities and causes in a range of different ways.  We might just ask children to wear a certain item of clothing to raise awareness of an issue.  Or we might ask families to make a small donation of money or specific items.  Teaching and learning in school always takes place alongside the event so that children understand the reasons for what we are doing.  Some of the charities we support are listed below.

Who we support

Children in Need - The BBC’s charity whose mission is to help ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and has the opportunities they need to reach their potential.  They fund local charities and projects who help remove the barriers that are facing children so that they can thrive.  

Comic Relief - A major charity based in the UK with a vision of a just world, free from poverty.  Their mission is to drive positive change through the power of entertainment.  

Down’s Syndrome Association - The only charity in the UK dealing with all aspects of Down’s syndrome.  Their aim is to help people who have Down’s syndrome live full and rewarding lives by delivering training and work programmes bringing employers together with jobseekers who have Down’s syndrome.  

Genetic Disorders UK - The national charity that supports individuals and families affected by a genetic disorder.  They provide grants to organisations for projects that aim to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders.  

Neuroblastoma UK - A small, national charity, dedicated to finding a cure for neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer.  They fund leading research to deliver new, more effective treatments for neuroblastoma.

Nite Bite - A local charity based in North Shields for those who are homeless or finding life just a little bit difficult.  The charity provides hot meals and a friendly face to talk to. 

NSPCC - The UK’s leading children’s charity, preventing abuse and helping those affected to recover.  They have been looking out for children for over 130 years and fight for every childhood by offering counselling, running educational programmes in schools and operating a children’s helpline.  

Show Racism the Red Card - The UK’s leading anti-racism education charity.  They work throughout the UK delivering anti-racism workshops to more than 50,000 people every year, while also providing specialist training to teachers. 

The Royal British Legion - The country’s largest Armed Forces charity with 235,000 members and 110,000 volunteers.  They provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families with expert advice and guidance, recovery and rehabilitation and transition to civilian life.  

Young Minds - The UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.  They campaign, research and influence policy and practice for a future where all young minds are supported through life, whatever the challenges.
